40th Annual Southern Gerontological Society Meeting

 In Past Events

SGS will celebrate its 40th conference anniversary by bringing together academics, practitioners, students, and others engaged in work within the field of aging to attend and/or present their latest research. Join us as we celebrate 40 years of success! In addition to the celebration, SGS will host conference content that includes keynote speakers, panel symposia, workshops and both paper and poster sessions.

We are excited to welcome Teepa Snow with A Positive Approach as the Keynote Presenter! Teepa will explore the signs and symptoms of non-normal aging to help recognize early signs and signals of brain changes; discuss how identifying the type of dementia a person has implications for better planning and delivery of care and support; and challenge us to improve our awareness, knowledge, and skills to develop dementia-competent support of people living with dementia, their care partners, and providers in order to create a dementia-inclusive culture.

The 2019 Program Committee has assembled a conference program which represents a diverse compilation of presentations from academic and applied professionals, students, and older adults. Program tracks are written with the intention of being highly inclusive, not exclusive – we have assisted our presenters in finding their best fit.

This year’s conference tracks have focused content represented from each of these topic areas.

  • Partnerships for Care
  • Living with Dementia
  • Power of Place: Aging in the South & Florida spotlight
  • Advocacy for and by Older Adults
  • Wellness, Well-Being, and Quality of Life
  • Diversity and Aging
  • Gerontological Education
  • Technology and Aging
